Original oil on 8 x 10 stretched canvas. I've been wanting to do a series of paintings of people sitting on benches all over the world. I started with this scene because it is so New York. People sitting on a bench totally oblivious to the clown sitting in their midst!

June 6, 2008 "NAPTIME"--Miniature

This little girl reminds me so much of me. There I would be in kindergarten, all the other little kids fast asleep on their mats, and me, wide awake, thinking, "is it time to get up yet??????"A little bit about miniatures. While this is the size of an ACEO art card, the technique is very different. This painting has been done in layers with a glazing technique, about 18 to 20 layers in all. With each layer, you add or remove detail, wait for it to dry, add a coat of liquin, and then do it again. Very time consuming, but very satisfying.

This is a 6 x 8 oil on canvas board, currently for sale on Ebay. Thought I'd paint something in honor of July 4th. This little boy dressed in the stars and stripes, holding a flag and saluting, seems to be perfect for the occasion.

6/3/08--PORTRAIT STUDY

4 X 6 STRETCHED CANVAS- FOR SALE ON EBAY--This painting has been a lot of fun to create and a change of pace from my usual colorful impressionist style. I've only used 4 different colored oils and used a tonalist style.

5/27/08--"HOMAGE TO SIMBARI"-16 X 20- $175-FOR SALE

Recently I went to a Simbari exhibit. He's a very famous french impressionist who often combines figures with abstract and semi-abstract forms. So I thought I'd try my hand at it. Here I've combined the figure of a woman against an abstract background. I've used a pallet knife throughout. The textures are wonderful. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to capture the brilliancy of the color on a photo.

Moda means fashion. I've combined a Vogue fashion model from the sixties with an abstract background. The colors also include metallic paints and interferon paints, so the painting almost glows. Again, I just can't capture on camera how brillitantly colored this painting is.

I've recently been introduced to paintings by Diane Leonard, an absolutely wonderful impressionist painter who combines two of my favorite subjects--children and landscape, either beaches or gardens. So she has inspired some of my recent work. CURRENTLY FOR SALE FROM ME.

What can be more adorable than a little girl dressed up in her sundress searching for shells on the beach. If you look closely at the configuration of colors on her dress, you can see the transparency of the material as the sun shines through.

PRECIOUS MOMENT-18 X 24-FOR SALE FROM ME

I call this one "precious moment" because this painting reminds me of a moment caught in time. A mother and her daughter, sitting on a sand dune, taking a break from reading and watching the boats sail by.

My pallet knife produces amazing textures and brilliant colors I haven't been able to get with my paint brushes. I found the subject for this painting intriguing. While I think of it as a landscape, I look at the figures in the foreground. Are they alone because they're strangers waiting at a bus stop? or--are they alone because they've just had a fight, or don't have anything to say to one another anymore?

BENCH PEOPLE--NEW YORK CITY

I love watching and painting people! I've been wanting to do a series of paintings on people sitting on a bench in different parts of the world. It's amazing how different they seem to be. I started with this scene because it is so New York--people totally oblivious to a person dressed as a clown in their midst.
